Frequently asked questions
Everything you might be wondering
How the engine works, how we think about cost and crowds, and how we handle the things that matter. Can’t find your answer? We’re a message away.
The discovery engine
You describe the kind of trip you’re after in plain language — a quiet coast with great food, an alpine reset, a slow romantic weekend. Our engine interprets the intent behind your words (mood, pace, budget, the experiences that matter) and scores every destination in our collection on how closely it fits, favouring authentic, uncrowded places over the obvious ones.
We look for places with high authenticity and low crowd pressure that still deliver something extraordinary — a living town rather than a stage set, a coastline without the coach parties. A gem is somewhere locals quietly love that most travellers pass by.
Each destination is assessed across authenticity, crowd levels, seasonality, character and the experiences it offers. We deliberately weight our recommendations toward the overlooked, so popularity and advertising never buy a place onto your shortlist.
Paris is wonderful — and already on everyone’s list. Hidden Gems Europe exists to surface the places you haven’t considered. We steer away from the handful of cities that already absorb the majority of Europe’s visitors, toward the quieter alternatives an hour or two beyond them.
Trips, costs & booking
Our cost estimates are indicative ranges based on typical shoulder-season travel — accommodation, local transport, food and a few experiences for the number of nights shown. They’re designed to help you compare destinations and plan a budget, not to quote an exact price.
Not yet. Today’s figures are researched estimates to guide your planning. Live prices for flights, stays and experiences will appear once our booking integrations are available — until then you’ll always see a clear note where estimated figures are shown.
Not currently. We’re a discovery platform first — our job is to inspire you and give you the context to travel well. Booking is on our roadmap and will arrive through trusted partners, but it will always stay in the background, never in the way of discovery.
Your data & getting involved
No. We do not sell your personal data. We use what you tell us only to improve the relevance of your recommendations. You can read the full detail in our privacy policy.
Yes, and we’d love that. Some of our best finds come from travellers and locals who know a place intimately. Send us your suggestion through the contact page and our editors will take a look.
We work with a small number of aligned tourism boards, sustainable operators and independent stays. If that sounds like you, reach out through the partnership enquiry on our contact page.
